"...one of the underlying reasons the band keeps slowly issuing releases of full and partial shows is that once released (even for a limited time), it is becomes illegal to stream them on sites like the archive."

That is absurd...

I certainly do remember! And I have no problem with it!

The music archived here is the intellectual property of The Grateful Dead. They rightly deserve to be compensated for providing you the pleasure of enjoying it. If its for sale, it shouldn't be available here...

Pony up or STFU!

Word! How anyone can think otherwise is beyond me. This band has been more generous than any other band I know

I guess this mentality is the cyber version of the miracle ticket. Why pay for anything when someone will just hand it for free? I agree with you. Not only has this band been good to the community in terms of recordings over the years but if any of us look at our old ticket stubs and see what the price was on those you'd thank them 10 times over for not pulling and Eagles or Stones and jacking up prices.

I guess you haven't been going to Furthur shows. Those prices are a mockery of a sham.

I haven't nor have I seen what they charge. I will say this though....It's 2012. You can't still charge 35 a ticket. Also, I have see some of the venues they play. Much smaller than Foxboro stadium or RFK, ect.

Weekend shows were $5 for me; mid-week @ Winterland only $2.

Those were the days.

Hmmm--another CREAM reference sneaks in, eh?

;)

That was my absolute favorite song when it was on the radio. My mom used to have it on the radio in her car, too, when she was driving me to wherever she drove me at that age, so it must have been on non-rock stations. Except I thought the words were "once upon a time there was a cavern," and it was about gypsies in Spain dancing on a table in a cave.

I give up. The entire post has taken a quick downhill ride that has nothing to do with what I was originally posting about.

Everyone have a nice day please.

There's no other reason for releasing shows than the desire to make money. More power to them! the quality of their recent releases have really impressed me, and although I think the price point is too high, they've obviously spent time and energy to make them sound as good as they can.

You stated that the band releases shows in order to make streaming illegal. Undertaking the expense of releasing a show; remixing, manufacture, promotion, and distribution, just so they can fuck over people who are streaming audio? You must not have thought things through before making that statement. Maybe you're dyslexic and meant to say the reason that things become unavailable to stream is because the band keeps releasing full and partial shows.
